In today’s fast-paced and high-pressure society, chronic stress has become a major global health issue, contributing to a wide range of mental and physical conditions, including anxiety, depression, cardiovascular disease, immune dysfunction, and metabolic disorders. While conventional therapies such as pharmacological treatments, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other relaxation techniques have shown varying degrees of effectiveness, there is increasing interest in natural, integrative interventions. Balneotherapy—a therapeutic method utilizing mineral-rich water, peloids (healing mud), and gases—offers a scientifically supported, non-invasive, and holistic approach to stress relief and psychological recovery.
This lecture explores the complex physiological and psychological effects of stress, emphasizing its impact on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, cortisol levels, and overall neuroendocrine balance. It presents a comprehensive overview of balneotherapy, including its mechanisms of action, clinical indications and contraindications, safety considerations, and evidence-based outcomes.
